FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Educational and Child Psychologists use applied psychology and knowledge of child development to support children and young people’s well-being, learning and development.

We offer consultation, advice and support to parents and teachers, as well as the young people concerned, on issues such as learning challenges, social and emotional needs, issues around disability and neurodevelopmental differences. We can use a variety of techniques, including discussion with the child or young person and key people in their life, as well as observations and assessments, to gather information and inform our recommendations.

Educational and Child Psychologists are also involved in research, teaching and training for staff working directly with children and young people.

I have a Doctorate in Child, Community and Educational Psychology (DEdPsy) and a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE).

I understand that many people have experienced financial hardship as a result of the pandemic. If you are not able to afford my full fee, please reach out to me so we can discuss how I can help.

Yes, sessions are confidential. I abide by the British Psychological Society Code of Ethics and Conduct and Practice Guidelines.

I am bound by law and an ethical duty of care to share my concerns with the appropriate authorities if I believe that there is a risk to you, a child, or another person.

As a part of my professional standards, I am mandated to engage with supervision on a regular basis. This may mean that I discuss information related to you or your child with my supervisor; however, your name/s and identifying details will not be used, and my supervisor is bound by the same rules of confidentiality.

As part of my work, there may be times when it is helpful for me to discuss information related to your child with another person in your child’s life. For example, asking your child’s teacher whether they share the same views as you or whether they see something different in the school setting can help me gain a fuller understanding of the issues. In these instances, I will seek your consent to liaise with others.

Please let me know as soon as possible if you need to cancel an appointment.

I ask a minimum of 24 hours notice to cancel an appointment; otherwise, the full fee will be due.

Unfortunately, these are not services that I offer.

It is helpful for me to know if the child or young person already has a diagnosis (for example, ADHD or ASD) or is going through the assessment process. My role is to support a child or young person with any difficulty affecting their well-being, learning, or development, regardless of whether they have a diagnosis.

No, I do not prescribe medication.
